Venturing
Venturing is a mechanic by which effects in Udacha can be determined to succeed or fail, with some element of chance involved. Think of it like rolling dice to determine an effect, except that you can influence the chances involved by what cards you decide to put in your deck before the game starts.
When you Venture, you Venture “with” a number that will determine chance of success. You want to Venture “with” a higher number.
Broadly speaking, there are two types of Venturing: attempting to complete a Quest, and any other card effect that calls for you to Venture. In the former case, you always Venture “with” the number of cards in your Invested Zone. For the other kind of Venturing, the effect that calls for you to Venture should also tell you what number you Venture “with.” Sometimes it will be a statistic on a card.
To Venture, reveal the top card of your Deck and examine its Fortune Number. If you ventured “with” a number less than the Fortune Number, the effect being Ventured for fails. If you Ventured “with” at least the revealed Fortune Number, the effect succeeds.
After resolving failure or success, normally you Discard the revealed card. (Some cards effects let you instead Invest or Draw the revealed card.)
Some cards in Udacha are EVENT cards in addition to being Heroes, Places, Hazards, Pursuits, or Stories. These cards have a dark-colored bubble around their Fortune Number to remind you that they have an additional effect when revealed as part of Venturing.
When you Venture into an EVENT card, examine its Game Text for its VENTURED effect. The VENTURED effect is resolved before success or failure of the Venturing attempt is resolved!
